On this journey of self-development I have come to believe that one thing can change your entire life, change the way you interact with others, increase your productivity, boost energy, bring joy to each day & give purpose & meaning to your life, even on the not so good days. That one thing is unconditional self-love.
Once you can achieve this state of loving your mind, body & soul, past, present & future, 100% with no exceptions, then you will find that nothing outside of you can effect you without your permission. This is so powerful, because it puts you in the driver’s seat of your own happiness & well-being. Operating from a place of self-love makes it easier to see that little arguments aren’t beneficial to your health & therefore not worth the wasted energy. You are able to transmute your emotions more quickly, keeping you in a high vibe state throughout the day. I believe the overall goal in this life is not wealth, fame, a collection of material items or accolades, but simply put, the goal for me is to live a long, joyful, impactful, healthy life.
This is a goal I must work on everyday. Happiness is not handed to me, I can’t purchase it. I am the only one that has the power to create it for myself. Once I realized this, I could see that loving my natural self was the key. When I reached this state of unconditional love, which was only a few months ago mind you, I wanted to break it down & see how I got here, what were the components that I had to work on in order to reach this mindset?
Self-love roadmap
- Accept your past for what it was. Tell yourself you did the best you could with what you had. Remove all judgments & criticisms. FORGIVE yourself. And tell your past self that you are proud of her.
- Make a list of 10 things that are inherently you, things that make you the unique person you are, the things that bring you joy & make you happy to be in your own skin. Celebrate them & be mindful to incorporate them in your daily life.
- Make a list of the things you currently don’t love about yourself, the things holding you back from the unconditional part of self-love. Take time to analyze why these things are unlovable to you. Then solve your own problems & make them things you love. Make a plan to change them into things you love or find a way to see them in a different light. View them as a part of you that makes you unique & know they are necessary parts to complete the puzzle that is you.
- Find your purpose. We are all here on this planet with a purpose. No matter how big or small. Read books, listen to podcasts & find that topic that lights you up, ignites your passion & drives you to get to work, even if it’s not a “real job.” It’s the job you set up for yourself this time around.
- Learn to view your mistakes as achievements not failures. Think about all the big lessons you’ve learned in your life, the ones that really stuck. They are the lessons that you’ve learned through epically failing first before reaching a new level of understanding. When we fail we learn & grow. That is an achievement. Let yourself off the hook & don’t be so hard on yourself.
- Recognize that the world exists in your mind. This is a big one! The world that happens around us is simply information, we attach emotions & meaning to this information. This is great, because it puts us, once again, back in the driver’s seat. We have the ability to change the way we feel & the way an interaction unfolds simply by changing our mindset. When you can get a grasp on this, NOTHING can turn your day sour.
- Fuel your body not your ego. Recognize that your body is always here, working with you, working to reach a healthy state to keep you alive. See your body as a partner. She needs your help, she can’t do it alone. Take time to listen to what she is telling you, because she is communicating with you every day. Feed her the nutrients she needs to thrive & you will feel the results pouring in. A healthy body is one that feels good to be in, to move in, and when you feel good in your body you feel happy, and isn’t that what life is all about?!
Happy Healing!
