When someone acts in a way that appears to come from a dark place, it can feel like a personal attack; rude, abrupt and uncalled for. We immediately reach for our ego arsenal of rage, anger, and comparison. We put up our defenses, thinking “I’m in the right and you’re clearly wrong.” We put people down and hope they “get their due,” or we think “they are vibrating at a much lower frequency, I’ll let this bounce off me,” thus creating a “me vs. you” or “good vs. evil” division. This may appear to be helpful but when viewed in the grand scheme of Earth School, it is not helping anyone. The world will not elevate if the seemingly “bad guys” all get their due in the end, destined to live out their miserable existence here on earth. No, we all win when that person can see the light. When they themselves can transform their anger into compassion and see the error in their ways. This brings love and light to all and we grow together as a result. This all starts with you, tapping into your heart, and practicing transforming anger into compassion.
Here is a guided practice for using the power of your heart to transform your negative thoughts and emotions into compassion.
– Anger to Compassion :: Heart Practice –
Find a comfortable position, lay back or sit in a meditation seat. Place your hand on your heart and close your eyes. Breathe into your heart and drop into your “feeling body”, temporarily stepping out of your head or “thinking body.”
Picture the person and the scenario that aggravates you. Go deep into your heart and repeat this.
“I am so sorry you had to do it this way. I know not of your childhood struggles, nor do I claim to understand the tough lessons you’ve faced in this lifetime. I have no idea what set of circumstances lead up to the moment when our paths crossed. My heart goes out to you for all that you’ve had to face and overcome to reach the levels of comfort, stability and happiness in your life. I know that your words and actions were not formed as a direct result of my actions, but a combination of many factors in your life. I am sorry that my words or actions triggered a response of anger and separation between us. I wish only to spread love, light and community. I send you so much love from the bottom of my heart. I pray you discover the unending supply of compassion and patience that lives within your heart. I feel for you as we travel on this Earth journey together and I sincerely hope your ride becomes smoother soon. I will be here waiting for the day you reach your pool of light and compassion. I stand by you, I support you and I honor you for where you are along your journey. I love you, fellow eternal soul, and I wish you well.”
With these words, feel the beautiful wave of warming calm light fill your body and wash over your soul. Take a deep breath in, filling up with gratitude and compassion. Then exhale it all out, sending these positive vibrations out into the world.
I promise, you will feel calmer, happier and have a much brighter outlook on life after this practice. We can all use more compassion in our lives, so please remember it often and share it always.
